Visit the center of the ‘Vieux Lyon‘, hearth of the city with the ‘Traboules‘, the Cathedral St Jean and the Renaissance’s buildings etc...
Lyon, in the early sixteenth century, was the real capital of the French Renaissance.
There are a number of reasons : it was a cosmopolitan and open city, it was the gateway to Italy.
Now enjoy the premier artistic , architectural and intellectual influences that make its sweetness of life.
The "Old Lyon " was the seat of civil authority (Governor's Palace), religious (Archdiocese) and economic (trade fairs, dealers, banks in the area of Place du Change) of the city. This area became the place where we mightt live and for nearly a century, we have continued to build, and transformed the houses. The wealthy citizens (the Gadagne, the Medicis) built luxury hotels or quality buildings on the old buildings of Vieux Lyon.
The influence in the architectural style came naturally from nearby Italy with its antiquities and Renaissance style.
What a pleasure to stroll through the old town steeped in history, we traboule (move from one street to another by way of the Renaissance courtyards), we discover the century old houses and laborious life that was conducted at the time.
But Lyon is the capital of gastronomy ... Many restaurants and some Bouchons open their doors and offer you a typical Lyon menu : sausages and charcuterie , cakes and liver dumplings, sausage brioche etc ...
